TRULY QUALITY proved himself the best with with a “black friday” win in the Hollywood Turf Cup-G2 at Del Mar on Nov. 28. A homebred racing for George Strawbridge’s Augustin Stable, the five-year-old gelding by Quality Road now has victories back-to-back runnings of the 1 1/2-mile feature. In this year’s rendition, TRULY QUALITY settled toward the back of the pack early on, came to the outside to draw closer, then began his run in earnest into the turn. He took the lead with an eighth of a mile to go, then drew clear for a 1 3/4-length win.
Foaled an raised at Stone Farm for his owner/breeder, TRULY QUALITY is out of Truly Together, a G3-placed daughter of Smart Strike. His granddam is Forever Together, the Female Turf Champion of 2008 who also raced for Strawbridge. Trained by Johnathan Thomas, TRULY QUALITY has six wins and seven placings from 16 career starts, with lifetime earnings of $630,495.
