MONTEGO BAY (g, 6, War Chant – Exotic Point, by Point Given) last found the winner’s circle over this course in July 2012 and returned from an almost 2 1/2 year absence with an eighth in a 10-panel grassy Arcadian optional claimer this February. Fifth cut back to a mile over the Golden Gates on Apr. 25, the Neil Drysdale trainee was second in another turf optional claimer at that venue May 25. Over looked at 15-1, the gelding raced without cover three deep in midpack through the early stages. He began to pick off horses around the far turn and reached the head of affairs as the field hit the straight. Montego Bay rolled through a mile in 1:36.41 with a slim lead and responded well to Drayden Van Dyke’s urging to fight off a closing Jules Journey (Good Journey) and triumph by a head.
