Treizieme

1981 The Minstrel – Belle Pensee, by Ribot

Raised at Stone Farm, Treizieme was bred by Kiltinan Farms and George Strawbridge and purchased as a weanling by Tom Tatham for Oak Cliff Breeders. Sent to France to trainer Maurice Zilber, she won her 2-year-old debut then followed that with a victory in the Grand Criterium-G1 at Longchamp, becoming the first filly to win that prestigious race in 17 years. She won the Prix de la Grotte-G3 and Prix de Psyche-G3 at three, and placed in two other stakes, including the G1 Prix Vermeille. A stakes winner in France again at four, Treizieme returned to finish out her career in the U.S. which included a runner-up effort in the Beverly Hills H.-G2 and setting a new course record winning the Canterbury Turf Classic H.
