Raised at Stone Farm, Treizieme was bred by Kiltinan Farms and George Strawbridge and purchased as a weanling by Tom Tatham for Oak Cliff Breeders. Sent to France to trainer Maurice Zilber, she won her 2-year-old debut then followed that with a victory in the Grand Criterium-G1 at Longchamp, becoming the first filly to win that prestigious race in 17 years.
