1978 Vaguely Noble – Belle Marie, by Candy Spots
Born and raised at Stone Farm for breeder/owner Aaron Jones, Lemhi Gold did not race at two. He was a stakes winner at three and was runner-up in the Jim Dandy S.-G2 before being sidelined with an injury. Back in action at four, Lemhi Gold posted victories in the San Juan Capistrano H.-G1 and Sword Dancer S.-G1 on turf and won the Marlboro Cup-G1 and Jockey Club Gold Cup-G1 on dirt. Voted the Eclipse Award as Champion Older Male, Lemhi Gold was sent to Europe for a campaign that did not pan out. He retired with eight wins and four placings from 22 starts and earnings of $1.1 million.
