Stone Farm: For half of a century.
If you take care of the land,
the land will take care of you.
We’re trying to raise you a good horse.
We sell only what we raise.
In other highlights during the early part of the session, agent Cecil Seaman bid $1.3m for ten-year-old Lacadena, by Fasliyev and out of a half-sister to American Broodmare of the Year Better Than Honour, dam of Belmont Stakes winners Rags To Riches and Jazil.
Seaman acquired Lacadena, who is carrying a colt by Bernardini, on behalf of Heider Family Stables.
Lacadena was owned by television celebrity chef Bobby Flay, who is racing her Grade 3-winning and Grade 1-placed daughter America, by A.P. Indy, and also owns her weanling daughter by Malibu Moon, said consignor Arthur Hancock of Stone Farm.
“We always put reasonable reserves; she would have sold for $750,000,” Hancock said. “We hoped she’d bring $1.2 or $1.3 million, but we weren’t sure. Bobby is happy, and he has a couple of fillies out of the mare, so it’s good for everybody.”
