In Wednesday’s featured $66,000 Mill Ridge Purse, Stone Farm and Madaket Stables’ favored Ascend prevailed in a deep stretch duel over second-choice Western Reserve by a length to win the allowance race for 3-year-olds and up before a crowd of 10,924.
Trained by Graham Motion and ridden by Julien Leparoux, Ascend covered the 1 1/16 miles on a firm turf course in 1:43.55.
Ascend is a 4-year-old Kentucky-bred son of Candy Ride (ARG) out of the Silver Ghost mare Ghost Dancing. The victory, the third in 10 career grass starts and worth $39,600, boosted his earnings to $224,280.
Ascend returned $5.20, $2.80 and $2.40. Western Reserve, ridden by Jose Ortiz, returned $3.20 and $2.80 with early leader Bern’ James Bern holding on for third under Gabriel Saez and paying $10.80
