Abbot Breaks His Maiden with a Surge to the Wire for the Win TDN

112th-GP, $40,000, Msw, 2-13, 3yo, 1mT, 1:36.57, fm.

ABBOT (c, 3, Langfuhr–Saintly Sister, by Saint Liam), second on debut at Belmont July 4, had not been seen since an eighthplace effort behind Sticksstatelydude (First Dude) at Saratoga Aug. 1. Trying the turf for the first time in this return, the 7-1 shot settled in midpack while racing three off the rail. He improved his position leaving the backstretch, loomed a threat at the top of the lane and quickened at midstretch to get a neck in front of favored Sir Dudley Digges (Gio Ponti) on the wire. In foal to Langfuhr, Saintly Sister sold for $80,000 as part of the Ned Evans dispersal at the 2011 Keeneland November sale. The mare, a half-sister to graded stakes winner Dixie City (Dixie Union), produced a colt by First Samurai in 2015 and was bred back to that stallion.

Lifetime Record: 3-1-1-0, $41,332.
