Prior to her win in the Sands Point S.-G3, AMERICATHEGREAT had made her last two starts in Canada. The first, in her career debut on turf, the daughter of top sire Curlin finished a second by only three-quarters of a length going 7 1/2 furlongs at Woodbine in early August. She came back in mid-September going a mile over the same course and drew clear to win by a comfortable 2 3/4 lengths. Belmont’s 1 1/8-mile Sands Point S.-G3 was a step up, and AMERICATHEGREAT showed she was up for the challenge. She tracked the leaders down the backstretch, began her move in the turn, put a head in front at the top of the stretch and raced gamely to prevail by a half-length at the wire. The victory marked the first stakes win and the first Graded stakes win for the 3-year-old filly.
Owned in partnership Gary Barber and D.J. Stable, AMERICATHEGREAT was foaled and raised by at Stone Farm for her breeder Bobby Flay. She is out of the A.P. Indy mare America, and is full sister to GSW First Captain and is from a family that includes Classic-winning filly Rags to Riches.
Consigned by Stone Farm to the 2024 Keeneland September sale, AMERICATHEGREAT was purchased by D. J. Stable for $1.2 million. Trained by Mark Casse, the filly has made nine career starts, with three wins and four placings to her credit. Two of her three wins have in her three starts on the turf.
