Tiznow Filly Brings $1.1 M at Keeneland – 09/10/2014

Dr. Christoph Berglar’s Stonereath Farm purchased a filly by Tiznow – Countess Lemonade, by Storm Cat, for $1.1 million during the third session of Book One Sept. 10 at the Keeneland September yearling sale.

The filly is the second yearling, both fillies, to bring a seven-figure final bid on the day.

Bred in Kentucky by Bobby Flay Thoroughbreds, the filly (Hip 549) was consigned by Arthur Hancock’s Stone Farm.

Stakes-placed in Europe and grade III-placed at Belmont Park, Countess Lemonade is a half sister to Irish champion Duke of Marmalade (by Danehill) and British highweight Ruler of the World (by Galileo) winner of the 2013 Investec Epsom Derby (Eng-I).

“We bought her to race here in the United States,” Berglar said. “Although this filly is likely destined to join the Stonereath broodmare band after a stint with trainer Graham Motion,” Berglar added: “In the near future we’re looking forward to her racing career, hopefully we’ll enjoy that.”
