Coming off back-to-back Grade 1 wins in 2024, Lael Stable’s SHE FEELS PRETTY did not make her 2025 debut until Kentucky Oaks day, when she won the Modesty S.-G3 on the turf at by a comfortable 2 1/4 lengths. She came back to win the New York S.-G1 at Saratoga in her next start, then finished second by a head in the hard-fought Diana S.-G1 at Saratoga. She followed that with a narrow win in the E. P. Taylor S.-G1 at Woodbine, and then finished out the year with a second-place finish in the Breeders’ Cup Filly Mare Turf-G1.
The quality of her wins and her competitive performances were more than enough to earn her the Eclipse Award for Champion Female Turf Horse, with 151 votes out of a possible 220. The awards were announced at The Breakers in Palm Beach FL on Jan. 22.
Bred by the late Virginia Kraft Payson’s Payson Stud, SHE FEELS PRETTY is a daughter of Karakontie (Jpn) and out of the More Than Ready mare Summer Sweet. Foaled and raised at Stone Farm, the now 5-year-old mare was purchased by her owners, Gretchen and Roy Jackson from the Stone’s 2022 Keeneland September consignment for $240,000.
SHE FEEL PRETTY has amassed $2.5 million in earnings and has eight wins, three seconds, and five placings from her 13 starts. The first champion to be trained by Derie DeVaux, SHE FEELS PRETTY is expected to stay in training for 2026.
