Stone Farm: For half of a century.
If you take care of the land,
the land will take care of you.
We’re trying to raise you a good horse.
We sell only what we raise.
Stone Farm-bred and raised BLACKADDER shipped in from southern Californa to win the 1 1/8-mile El Camino Real Derby at Golden Gate Fields on Feb. 12. The colt settled off the pace, then improved his position in the second turn. He began his move at the top of the stretch, challenged favorite Mackinnon inside the sixteenth, and prevailed by a neck in the final strides.
A qualifying race on the Road the Kentucky Derby, the El Camino Real Derby offers the winner an automatic spot in the Preakness Stakes. (Rombauer used last year’s running as a stepping stone to his Preakness victory.)
BLACKADER is by Quality Road out the Pulpit mare Chapel. He was consigned by Stone Farm to the 2020 Keeneland September Yearling Sale and was purchased by Starlight Racing for $620,000. BLACKADDER is owned in partnership by Starlight, SF Racing, Madaket Stables, Robert Masterson, Stonestreet Stables, Jay Schoenfarber, Waves Edge Capital, Catherine Donovan, Golconda Stable, and Siena Farm, and he is trained by Bob Baffert.
The colt colt broke his maiden as a 2-year-old by 1 1/4 lengths at a mile at Santa Anita on Dec. 26. He now has two wins and a placing in four starts.
